He's red hot and not just on the football field. North Melbourne star Shaun Higgins is firming in the odds to win the Brownlow Medal by the week and AFL Hall of Famer, Terry Wallace, believes the 30-year-old is a legitimate chance to win.

Enjoying his career-best season, the midfielder is averaging 26.8 disposals, 10.3 contested possessions, 6.0 inside 50s and 5.6 clearances per game.

“I think that he is absolutely a chance for the Brownlow Medal,” Wallace told SEN radio.

“A big big Brownlow Medal chance. Who is going to take votes off him?

“Personally, I don’t think Ben Cunnington is going to get massive votes. He is a really good player Ben Cunnington, don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t think he is that stylish sort of player that necessarily attracts the umpire’s eye because he does it all under the pack and it’s all very quick."

Higgins has fought through heavy attention and tags to emerge one of the premier players in the game.

“Ben Brown will get a few but I don’t think he will take big votes off him," Wallace added.

“I think he (Higgins) is the stand-out in that side and they’re winning games."
