AFL Fantasy is back for another season, and the team at Footy Prophet will again be supplying NMFC.com.au with premium fantasy analysis and tips for the 2015 season.

In the 2014 off-season North Melbourne again pursued a strategy of adding established talent to its list through free agency.

Jarrad Waite ($455,000 in AFL Fantasy Classic this year) and Shaun Higgins ($430,000) have joined Nick Dal Santo as free agents to now wear the white and blue, after crossing to Arden Street last October.

Waite, who spent 12 years at Carlton before becoming a Roo, is a powerful athlete very capable of kicking bags of goals and putting up impressive fantasy scores.

2014 was a productive season for him, as he put up an average of 80.4 fantasy points per game from his 16 appearances. It was the fourth time in the past six years that Waite has topped the 80 point mark, and he’ll look to do it again in 2015.

While Waite will immediately be among North’s veteran players, Higgins, who turns 27 before Round 1, is in his prime as a footballer. A talented ball-carrier, Higgins will add extra pace and class to North’s midfield balance.

Higgins has averaged around the 75 point mark for the past few seasons, but his averages were in the 80's during 2009-11, a time when the Bulldogs were pushing deep into finals.

A change of scenery and greater midfield support, plus the prospect of success, could see him recapture or even improve on his best football.

Brad Scott has said he sees Waite largely as a key forward, which is good for his fantasy prospects as it’s where he has done his best scoring. He’s also stated that he’ll start Higgins in the midfield, which could be a boon for him given he spent much of 2014 as a utility.

When it comes to AFL Fantasy they make for interesting prospects. In the salary-cap based game AFL Fantasy Classic, neither will be popular choices. Both have had their fair share of injury woes in the past, and this will leave fantasy coaches wary of selecting them.

Despite Waite’s ability to put up big scores, the wide range of midfielder-forward types available this year will likely push him out of consideration.

Higgins could be of some value in an AFL Fantasy Classic backline. The game is low on high-scoring defenders this year, and the indications that Higgins will play through the midfield should at least put him on the watchlist. His flexibility as a defender/forward could be handy too.

More value however will be had from both in the draft-based game AFL Fantasy Elite. Given this game requires players to be divided up amongst all the teams in the league, many players who would not be considered for AFL Fantasy Classic come into the picture.

Waite’s contributions as a forward can have decent value in AFL Fantasy Elite, and again Higgins' defender/forward status and increased midfield time will boost his value.

All things considered, both are a good chance to improve their fantasy output as they don their new colours.
