With the win-loss ledger now squared at one, North Melbourne has its first six day break of the season before playing Port Adelaide on Saturday night.

The sides have played close matches recently, with the last three encounters decided by a total of 19 points.

Midfielders

With the availability of Nick Dal Santo and Daniel Wells up in the air, it’s the centre of the park that could have the most change before Saturday night.

After being dropped for the first time in his career, Ryan Bastinac could be recalled immediately. He was a game day emergency for the victory over the Lions, so is fresh after a weekend without a game.

Trent Dumont had a typically impressive game for North Ballarat, drawing praise from senior development coach Gavin Brown.

"His hands were really good at times and really sharp," Brown said.

"He showed some composure and would have got plenty of the footy, which is something he’ll always do."

While Brad McKenzie and Ben Jacobs have spent the majority of 2015 playing off half-back, they are comfortable enough through the middle to play there if the situation calls for it.

Defenders

Robbie Tarrant was a shining light for Werribee on the weekend. In a side that was beaten heavily, the key defender won his matchup and also used the ball well when rebounding.

"He was a shining light down there really,” Development Manager Ben Dyer told NMFC.com.au shortly after the game’s completion.

"He defended really well. He wasn’t beaten in the one-on-one contest. He bodied up well and spoilt well."

Lachlan Hansen has continued his road back to full fitness recently. Brad Scott labelled the defender ‘medically cleared’ to play, with the last step being to build his fitness back to the point where he can finish a full game.

Jamie Macmillan was a late withdrawal with soreness before Sunday’s defeat of Brisbane. A member of the best 22 when fit, a full week of training should see the newest member of the leadership group straight back into the side.

Forwards

20 goals against the Lions makes it hard for any changes to a setup that worked more smoothly after the introduction of Ben Brown.

The Tasmanian’s first game of 2015 was a success, kicking three goals. Brown, Jarrad Waite and Drew Petrie combined for 12 goals and 24 marks.
