Right on the backdoor of North Melbourne’s luxurious 5-star accommodation in Utah sits Bald Mountain.

An intimidating sight, the players had already hiked up it just days after arriving. But on this occasion, Director of Sports Science and Conditioning Peter Mulkearns had another use for its slopes and it wasn’t going to be pretty.

Hill sprints are not something you can easily get excited about and the Kangaroos knew they were in for a painful morning.

The program included continuous 30, 60 and 90 metre sprints ascending steep terrain with little time to rest.

Following each heart-pounding run, the boys returned to the starting point only to be told to 'go again'. By the end, the were all were gasping for breath.

However this was just the beginning with stairs, boxing and circuits all still to come in the afternoon.
