He was the talk of Australia following his performance in the NBA Finals’ Series, and now Matthew Dellavedova is making waves on his return home.

Affectionately known as “Delly”, the Cleveland Cavalier met Kangaroo Todd Goldstein at Arden Street on Monday.

Playing in one of the smaller position in the NBA as a point guard, at 193cm, Dellavedova remarkably stands just eight centimetres shorter than Goldstein, one of the AFL’s tallest.

The pair took part in a shootaround with former Melbourne Tiger Lanard Copeland at the Roos’ traditional home, as part of a promotion for Red Bull Reign, a three-on-three basketball tournament.

After spending much of his teenage years playing basketball, Goldstein impressed with his skills on the court.

“I think he’s still a chance (of making it as a basketballer),” Dellavedova said of the North ruckman.

“His leftie-stroke looked pretty good, he was knocking down three’s, so I’m sure he can find a spot somewhere if footy doesn’t work out … but that seems to be going pretty well for him right now.”

Goldstein and Dellavedova have plenty in common - both enjoying successes this season with their aggressive, hard-working approach.

“It’s a great experience. When I was told about the opportunity I jumped at it,” Goldstein said.

“I grew up watching Lanard at the (Melbourne) Tigers and obviously now watching ‘Delly’ is a great thrill for all Australians.”
