Gold Coast defender Steven May will miss his team's clash against North Melbourne after being handed a five-match ban by the AFL Tribunal.

May, who fronted the Tribunal in person in Melbourne, pleaded guilty as charged and admitted he had "made the wrong decision" to run past the ball and bump Brisbane Lions ruckman Stefan Martin in Saturday's QClash.

Midfielder Dion Prestia will need to prove his fitness later in the week to take his place in the Suns' 22.

“He copped a bit of a blow on that (shoulder),” Gold Coast head physiotherapist Adam Russell told the club's website.

“So he’s had a scan and everything’s looking okay. We’ll just take it easy with him early in the week and he’ll be assessed on Thursday after our training session.”
