Full of confidence and one of the AFL’s sharpest in front of goals, Lindsay Thomas has been one of the success stories of 2013.

Returning from a two-week suspension, the North Melbourne small forward didn’t miss a beat in the opening term against the Blues, booting three goals.

He finished the game with six and was considered by Brad Scott and Mick Malthouse as the most valuable player on the ground, polling nine votes in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year.

Thomas wasn’t alone in the forward half. Petrie kicked four goals and threatened to win the match off his own boot late.

The vice-captain also pulled down 9 marks and laid 4 tackles in one of his best games for the season. It was enough to help him to four votes.

Petrie is now on top of the North leaderboard, ahead of Andrew Swallow and Jack Ziebell.

Kade Simpson, Matthew Kreuzer and Jeff Garlett shared the Blues’ votes.
