Over the course of the season, North Melbourne’s Twitter handle - @northkangaroos – asked fans which plays they would like to see made into gifs.

Now with the year having come to a close, the best 32 gifs will battle against each other to take out the inaugural gif of the year title.

It will all be decided by you. There will be two matchups a day, with the voting period approximately 24 hours for each one.

The full draw will be revealed at the conclusion of the first round.

Match 9

Daniel Wells’ candy (Round 4) v Ben Brown’s first goal celebration (Round 14)

Wells’ trickery is mesmerising to watch in this gif. With a simple body feint, the Kangaroo manages to make Gary Rohan fly by him, allowing the midfielder much more time and space to clear out of the defensive 50. It could be a sleeper to progress deep into the tournament despite not earning a seeding.

When the Tasmanian made his AFL debut against Melbourne, he was clearly ecstatic after kicking his first goal. A popular figure at the club, Brown was duly mobbed by his teammates, delighted at the chance to ruin his famous mop of red curls.

Match 10

Scott Thompson’s tackle (Round 2) v Luke McDonald’s courage (Round 11)

While Thompson’s main attributes are his defence in the air and intercept play, he can also throw his weight around, as evidenced by this crunching tackle on Liam Jones from the Western Bulldogs.

Thompson lines Jones up from a few metres away before applying the perfect tackle, forcing the ball to spill out and North to gain possession.

This act of courage by the first-year Roo earned him the Mazda Spirit Award, as voted on by NMFC.com.au viewers.

Backing back with the flight of the ball, McDonald threw himself in front of West Coast key forward Josh Kennedy and braced for the collision.

Despite being on the receiving end of a heavy hit, the left footer was able to get almost straight back up, grit his teeth and play his role in an important Kangaroos’ win.
