Syd Barker Medal night isn’t all about the main vote count. There are plenty of additional awards to hand out. Here is the list of winners for 2013:

Jason McCartney Jumper Award - Jack Ziebell
In 2003 the players of the North Melbourne Football Club initiated an award to honour Jason McCartney’s courageous comeback match.

The Jason McCartney jumper epitomises the values, strength and courage that Jason used to return to the game he loved.

The players sign the jumper and nominate the player they believe stands for the values of the jumper.

Glenn Archer Northerners award – Jack Ziebell
The Northerners is the longest established coterie of the North Melbourne Football Club.

Over the past few years, the Northerners have been a huge supporter on and off the field.

Since being established in 1967 the Northerners have had the privilege of awarding the Glenn Archer Northerners award to the player judged by the coterie members for their courage, determination and commitment.

The winner need not be best on ground each week or average the greatest number of possessions but is a team player who has shown commitment to the team through their efforts.

Best first year player – Aaron Mullett
The Best First Year Player Award acknowledges those young players making their mark in the AFL and is voted on by the coaching staff.

To be eligible any player must not have played any more than 10 senior games before the start of the 2013 season.

Peter Scanlon community award – Lindsay Thomas
This year’s Peter Scanlon Community Award winner has demonstrated that community service doesn’t just benefit others – it can in fact - benefit the individual.

2013 was a breakout year for this person – but the club recognises and celebrates his significant achievements off the field.

His work with the Blackwoods Indigenous Academy has been nothing short of remarkable and those who have had the privilege of hearing him speak, have been moved by his passion and commitment.

The Indigenous Academy’s impact and successes can largely be attributed to this man’s dedication and willingness to make a difference and this award recognises him as a true leader of the club.

Harold Henderson best clubman award – Scott Thompson
The player who epitomises everything about unselfishness, has a team-first attitude, goes beyond the call of duty, not just on the field for the 22 players selected each week, but for the whole playing list and club.
