North Melbourne stalwart Drew Petrie is in line for AFL Life Membership, should the number 20 play in the NAB Challenge this weekend.

If Petrie plays in the Port Lincoln clash against Adelaide on Sunday, he'll take his overall games tally to 300 (inclusive of pre-season, premiership and International Rules appearances), and with it, join a select group of players.

Speaking on SEN on Wednesday, Petrie downplayed the significance of the milestone.

"I guess it's something you get to if you hang around in the industry long enough," he joked.

"There's a couple of tickets you get now that will get you in to any game for the rest of my life, so there's a couple little of perks there. But it's a nice little thing you accumulate once you've play for a lot of years."

It's an achievement that can't be underestimated though; Petrie is preparing for his 15th season as a Kangaroo.

The key-forward, who has played forward, back and in the ruck during an illustrious career has been quick put his hand up for selection on Sunday.

"I'm feeling really fresh and that's been the benefit of having a modified pre-Christmas program," Petrie said.

Petrie said new recruit Jarrad Waite, who was now just "one of the boys" at Arden St, was also expected to see his share of game time in the NAB Challenge.

"He's settled in really well. He obviously felt pretty comfortable in his move.

"He has trained really well throughout the whole pre-season. He's done a lot of the sessions as well, which is something he hasn't been able to complete over his career, so for him to do as much pre-season as he has will hold him in good stead."

With the NAB Challenge the immediate focus for North, Petrie said the playing group was well aware of the expectations for the season ahead.

"Within the group we aren't going to settle for anything less than another finals campaign and a good one at that," the 32-year-old added.

"We know that we should be beating the best sides in the competition because we know we can do it from what happened last year."
