It’s been a tough run for North’s small forwards, with Taylor Garner (hamstring), Kayne Turner (hamstring) and now Shaun Higgins (knee) sidelined.

Lindsay Thomas’ return from suspension comes at a handy time, but it will be interesting to see how the Roos set up in Higgins’ absence.

Brad Scott and his match committee will also be sweating on the fitness of Daniel Wells (leg) and Sam Wright (ankle) heading into Saturday’s match.

NMFC.com.au looks at those players who could be in contention for a call-up.

Have your say on the potential changes below.

Forwards

A straight swap between Higgins and Thomas looks the most likely scenario for North.

Werribee’s thrashing at the hands of Williamstown meant few Kangaroos had an impact, with attacking onballers Corey Wagner and Declan Mountford both quiet.

In the key-posts, Aaron Black and Majak Daw kicked four goals apiece, but it’s hard to see there being wholesale changes to a winning tall-forward structure.

Midfielders

Higgins spends time through the midfield and his presence will be missed.

Wells’ availability will also be crucial to North’s chances, with the likes of Brad McKenzie, Trent Dumont and Farren Ray waiting in the wings should they be called upon.

McKenzie was an emergency last week and could be close to getting an opportunity.

Dumont was quieter on a tough night, but has proven form at VFL level, while Ray will rely on another promotion to the senior list if he’s to be given a chance.

Essendon has hinted it could bring in a second renowned ruck to tackle Goldstein, meaning a call-up for Daw isn’t out of the question.

Defenders

Wright will be looking to prove his fitness and win back his spot, although the solid form of Aaron Mullett in his first game of the year means it won’t be easy.
