With the 2018 AFL season over, the focus for North Melbourne shifts to the club’s most prestigious event, the Syd Barker Medal.

Although the Syd Barker Medal is the main event, there are a host of awards and achievements that will be recognised on the club’s night of nights.

North Media has taken a look at what is up for grabs on Friday night.

Syd Barker Medal

The Syd Barker Medal is North Melbourne’s most prestigious club award, and has been awarded to the club champion since 1929.

“Syd” is awarded to the best and fairest player from the most recent season, and is voted on by the coaching group after each match.

Shinboner of the Year

The Shinboner of the Year is decided by the players, who vote on a weekly basis who they believe best stands for the club values - real, bold, belonging and never beaten.

Mazda Excellence Award

The Mazda Excellence Award is awarded to the player that best illustrates the traits of class and elite performance.

This is a fan-based award, with members and fans voting for their best three players after every game.

Peter Scanlon Community Award

The Peter Scanlon Community Award winner exemplifies the spirit of giving, going the ‘extra mile’ on numerous occasions, often without recognition, and never expecting fanfare.

Harold Henderson Best Clubman Award

The Harold Henderson Best Clubman Award is for the player who epitomises everything about unselfishness, has a team-first attitude, goes beyond the call of duty, not just on the field for the 22 players selected each week, but for the whole playing list and club.

Best Young Player

The Best Young Player Award is awarded to a young player who has made the biggest impact within the club and the AFL in the past two years.

This award is voted by the North Melbourne coaching Staff.

Life Membership

Life membership is awarded to players and officials that have made an important impact to the club over a significant period of time

With the introduction of North Melbourne’s standalone VFL team in 2018, there will be an additional two awards to be recognised this year.

VFL Best Clubman Award

Like the Harold Henderson Best Clubman Award for the AFL list, the VFL Best Clubman Award is given to the VFL player who epitomises everything about unselfishness, has a team-first attitude, goes beyond the call of duty, not just on the field for the 22 players selected each week, but for the whole playing list and club.

VFL John Law Medal

The inaugural John Law Medal will be presented to the best & fairest player from the North Melbourne VFL list for 2018.

This award is voted upon by the VFL coaches.
