GOLD Coast captain Gary Ablett has been ruled out for at least two matches after scans on Monday revealed minor damage and bone bruising to his knee.

"Gary had scans this morning on his right knee. The scans have revealed no structural damage to his knee, however we expect him to miss a couple of matches," Suns general manager Marcus Ashcroft told the club's website.

The Suns tried to play down the injury after the Brownlow medallist needed assistance off the field after a collision with Brisbane tagger Andrew Raines late in the Gold Coast's 65-point loss at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Ablett was also keeping his fingers crossed after arriving for scans on Monday with his knee bandaged.

"I'll do everything right that I have to and hopefully just miss this week and hopefully the week after it'll be good. I know it's a big call but fingers crossed it pulls up well as the days go by," Ablett said.

He said he would wear a knee brace for the next week and continue a rigorous ice bath regiment in order to speed up recovery.

"It is a relief," Ablett said.

"I wouldn't say a good result, I'd love to play this week but it's not serious. Doc said two to three weeks but I'm pretty confident I can get back earlier."

It was not a good day for Gold Coast on the injury front with in-form small defender Jarrod Harbrow ruled out for an extended period of time.

Harbrow damaged his elbow after falling awkwardly against the Lions and Ashcroft said he would miss "two to three months".

"He needs to consult with a surgeon but it will be a significant period of time."

Ashcroft said there was better news for young midfield dynamo David Swallow who suffered a hip problem against the Lions.

He said Swallow would be assessed at training on Wednesday and Friday but was hopeful of having him available to play North Melbourne on Saturday.

No rookie has been elevated to replace Harbrow yet.
