A versatile key-position prospect drafted out of Tasmania, Matt McGuinness is capable of playing at either end of the ground, in the ruck, and even on the wing.

A natural left-footer, McGuinness has been a solid contributor at VFL level in his time on North’s list, developing at a steady rate and pressing his claim for a senior call-up through his ability to play almost anywhere on the ground.

2021: Starting the season in the forward line, McGuinness played arguably the best game of his young North career in the VFL side’s final practice match of the pre-season, kicking two crucial goals and playing a starring role in unbelievably challenging conditions.

Unfortunately, a foot injury restricted him to just two appearances at VFL level over the season, including an impressing 18 disposal showing in Round 1 against Geelong.

After undergoing surgery to fix the issue, he signed a one-year contract extension at the club, tying him to North until the end of the 2022 campaign.
