Whether it be the Shinboner Spirit, our Arden Street home, the famous jumper numbers, or our premiership triumphs, there are so many iconic aspects of the North Melbourne Kangaroos.

The most legendary, the most immovable and the most permanent are our colours.

After entering the VFL competition in 1925 with a royal blue jumper and a white V, we adopted the famous blue and white stripes in 1933.

All of our greatest moments have come in that jumper.

Through the highs and the lows, the victories and the defeats, our triumphs in 1975 and ‘77, in 1996 and ‘99, our blue and white stripes have always been there, the literal fabric of our football club.

As part of the new apparel partnership with PUMA, we’re returning to our tradition – a North Melbourne Kangaroos jumper with a white base and solid blue stripes.

Malcolm Blight wore them when he dropped his 80m bomb at Princes Park in 1976. So did Arnold Briedis when he kicked five goals in the 1977 Grand Final replay. Jason McCartney sported the long-sleeves in his emotional return to football in 2003 and Brent Harvey carried the colours in his 400th game.

Our Brownlow winners and our Syd Barker Medalists, our All-Australians and our captains. It’s the jumper that unites North Melbourne people across eras.

The change in jumper means our current list will launch into the future with a piece of history and tradition on their backs, with the echoes of the greats who came before them.

It’s through the jumper that Will Phillips is now infinitely bound with Brent Harvey and Peter German; Jaidyn Stephenson with Wayne Schwass and Noel Teasdale.

Our jumper is our football club, and with PUMA, we’re returning to our roots.
