The North Melbourne Kangaroos have confirmed the appointments of highly respected marketing executive Suzana Ristevski and former captain and two-time premiership player Anthony Stevens to the club’s board at Wednesday’s annual general meeting.

The pair were appointed to the board in August following the retirements of Glenn Archer and Julie Laycock earlier this year.

Ristevski is the chief marketing officer at National Australia Bank and has held key executive roles at major multinational brands General Electric and Optus. She is also a lifelong North Melbourne supporter.

Stevens is one of the most revered figures in the club’s history, having won the second of his two Syd Barker medals in the Roos’ last premiership year of 1999. A former player manager and current sales executive, Stevens is also the President of the club’s Past Players and Officials’ Association.

The AGM also saw the club confirm a profit of $453,189 for the financial year of 2021. It is the club’s 10th consecutive profit and the 14th in 15 years. North Melbourne is now debt-free for the first time since 1987.

Club president Ben Buckley welcomed the appointments of Ristevski and Stevens, and said that the Kangaroos’ faithful should be confident the club is heading in the right direction.

“Our fans should be really positive about these two additions. They’ve already brought great expertise and governance to the Board,” Buckley said.

“Suzana and Anthony are both passionate North Melbourne people and will play key roles in the strategic direction of the club in the coming years.

“We clearly made a big announcement about the removal of our debt last month so there is great optimism about where we’re headed.

“The club and its supporters, the staff under chief Ben Amarfio and Cam McLeod in the Huddle, our coterie members, our Patrons – they can all take great credit for where we’ve come from and where we’re now placed. There is still work to be done but we’ve never been in a better position off the field.”

Long-serving board member Brady Scanlon also retired after serving the maximum three terms allowed under the club’s Constitution.

Buckley paid tribute to Scanlon, who joined the Board way back in 2012.

“Brady has made an enormous contribution to the Kangaroos,” Buckley said. “He has been instrumental in assisting many areas of the club and has been a key driver in guiding us financially to where we are today.

“His recent work on identifying  opportunities around the redevelopment of Arden Precinct will form a key part of his legacy.

“Although it’s sad to see him leave his official role with the club, we know he won’t be far away and he will continue to stay involved on our Arden Street redevelopment sub-committee.

“His family has a deep and everlasting link to North Melbourne and we can’t thank him enough for his efforts across almost a decade of service.

“Along with our other retiring board members in Julie and Glenn, we know Brady will be cheering on the blue and white from the first game of the women’s season until our last men’s match next year and beyond.”
