North Melbourne ruck-forward Emma King says the Roos are looking to refine themselves each week to ensure they're in the premiership conversation at the pointy end.

Darren Crocker's group fell short in 2022's Season 7, going down to the Demons in the preliminary final despite chalking up 36 inside 50s to Melbourne's 26 at Ikon Park, but have again been tipped to make a run in the finals series come November.

The Roos are already one of the in-form teams of the competition this season with big wins over St Kilda and Carlton, and sit top of the table heading into Friday night's blockbuster with fellow top-four side, Geelong.

"We've been building on something," King said on Wednesday.

"We got to the prelim last year, and - within our four walls - we think that we lost that game ourselves against Melbourne, especially in that third quarter.

"When we play four quarters of our best footy it can get us over the line.

"So that's what we're focusing on week in and week out, making sure that we can refine things every week so that when it comes to the end of the season - when it really counts - we can just bring all four quarters together."

While the Roos are flying on the field, Crocker believes there's still areas that his side can improve on coming out of the 60-point SuperClash victory at Arden Street Oval.

"Our ability to be a little more efficient and damaging going forward (could improve)," Crocker said.

"We felt for large parts of that game (against Carlton) we did have a fair handle on the territory battle, especially in the first quarter we were well on top with our time in forward half and getting the ball inside forward 50.

"We've gone to work a bit on identifying that this week, but the interesting thing about this week is that it's such a short turnaround for us - five days.

"Wednesday night is our one and only session for the week, so we'll be able to practice some of that then."
