North Melbourne has added to its tall stocks with the signing of 20-year-old Tasmanian Lachy Brewer as a Category B Rookie.
Standing at 195cm, Brewer returns to Australian Football following an elite basketball career that took him from Launceston to the US College system.
A versatile athlete with a high leap and a physical edge, Brewer most recently featured for Idaho State University following a stint at Sacramento State.
During his time in junior basketball, he represented Australia at the Under-17 FIBA World Cup and earned a selection in the 2022 Asian U17 All-Star team.
A standout for the Launceston Junior Football Club, he represented Tasmania at U12 level, alongside North Melbourne star Colby McKercher.
North Melbourne Head of Football Talent Brady Rawlings said the club is eager to see Brewer’s athletic traits translate to the AFL environment.
"We are really pleased to welcome Lachy to the club and give him the opportunity to bring those elite attributes back onto the footy field," Rawlings said.
"Lachy has spent the last few years in a high-pressure college environment in the US, so we have no doubt he will bring a high level of professionalism to our young group.
"We believe his physical profile, combined with his previous football background, gives him a great platform to develop within our system at Arden Street."
