Star North Melbourne ruck Tristan Xerri will miss three matches after admitting to serious misconduct during Saturday night's win over Essendon.

The Match Review Officer levelled the charge against Xerri for an incident involving Andrew McGrath in which Xerri, having suffered a blood nose, wiped his hand on the Essendon captain's face.

At Monday night's Tribunal hearing, Xerri pleaded guilty to the charge and expressed his remorse for the action.

Xerri said he called McGrath to apologise the morning after the match, and had also apologised to his teammates.

After accepting Xerri's guilty plea, the Tribunal determined the charge warranted a three-match ban.

Xerri will now be unavailable for selection for the club's next three games, including this week's Good Friday SuperClash at Marvel Stadium.
