The JLT Community Series is the perfect time for clubs to test their pre-season projects against genuine opposition.

For North Melbourne, spots in the best 22 are in high demand, so players will be hoping to show the selectors that they’re worthy of a Round 1 berth.

Here are a few interesting storylines to keep an eye on in JLT 2.

A return to Alberton

One of the biggest talking points from the 2018 Draft Period was the deal to bring Jared Polec and Jasper Pittard to Arden St.

North traded their 2018 first-round pick and future fourth-round selection to acquire the pair, and both impressed in the opening JLT fixture.

Saturday will be an interesting proposition for Polec and Pittard, as they prepare to go up against their old team-mates for the first time, at the Power's traditional home, Alberton.

Campbell gets his chance

Tom Campbell will be given the chance to prove his worth on Saturday as he takes on the majority of the ruck duties, with Todd Goldstein rested.

The former Bulldog joined the club through the supplemental selection period (SSP), and has been an impressive performer in pre-season, earning a call-up to the Roos' first JLT match against St Kilda last weekend.

Campbell was solid in the ruck with 25 hit-outs, and a booming long goal from outside 50 to push his case.

The big man will certainly have his work cut out on Saturday, potentially going up against a combination of 2017 All-Australian ruckman Paddy Ryder, and 2018 Premiership ruckman Scott Lycett.

A defensive test

The Kangaroos will face another stern test in defence this weekend, particularly in the absence of Jamie Macmillan.

Scott Thompson and Sam Wright return to the line-up to provide some much-needed experience, as the Roos' young defenders prepare to face a particularly tall attacking six.

Ryder, Scott Lycett, Todd Marshall and Jack Watts are among the Power’s forward options, meaning the likes of Ed Vickers-Willis and Sam Wright may need to play taller than they are used to.

With Round 1 opponents Fremantle also boasting a wealth of options up forward, the match will no doubt provide a strong preview into how the Roos defence will cope going up against a tall attack.

Young guns

Draftees Bailey Scott and Tarryn Thomas have retained their place in the Roos' side, after both had solid outings on debut.

The tireless work-rate of Scott was a highlight against the Saints, while Thomas' class at such a young age was on show.

North fans will be excited to see the pair in action again, with both hoping to secure a place for Round 1.
