After a shock Round 1 loss, North Melbourne coach Brad Scott indicated changes to the side are likely ahead of the Roos’ clash with Brisbane.

There will be one confirmed change with Ed Vickers-Willis ruled out after rupturing his ACL.

Ten AFL-listed players featured in North’s VFL practice match on Saturday, many of which made a strong case for senior selection.

Defenders

After missing Round 1 due to a 2018 suspension, Scott Thompson is certain to be named alongside Robbie Tarrant.

The veteran’s experience and ability to take a key defender will assist North, especially with a young and talented Ben McKay still finding his feet.

Rookie Tom Murphy may also earn a recall after collecting 18 disposals and taking 7 marks in the VFL on the weekend.

Having featured in the JLT Series, Murphy will be one to consider for the match committee.

Midfielders

Paul Ahern was a victim of North’s midfield depth in Round 1; excluded from the side despite an impressive pre-season.

While Ahern didn’t star in the VFL, his class and elite ball-use would be a significant inclusion to the senior, with his trademark poise missed against Fremantle.

Ruck recruit Tom Campbell will also be available after he was suspended in JLT1.

Forwards

Nick Larkey and Nathan Hrovat were both travelling emergencies in Perth and didn’t feature in the VFL, and are knocking on the door.

Larkey’s size could assist star forward Ben Brown, while Hrovat’s experience could be handy inside forward 50.

Draftee Curtis Taylor has impressed in each of the VFL practice matches this weekend, and could earn a well-earned debut.

The forward had 13 disposals and took 8 marks.

As is the case for highly-touted first round draft pick, Tarryn Thomas is well and truly in the mix for his debut.

Spending time forward and through the midfield later in the contest, the pick eight won a team-high 21 disposals and impressed coaches and fans.

Taylor Garner’s fitness continues to improve, and given his proven ability to impact games, could be a strong inclusion to the side. However he was rested last weekend.

Hard-nut Cameron Zurhaar could be in line, as his ruthless style could add another dimension to the team.
