Winger Taylah Gatt will miss North Melbourne's first three games of the AFLW season, including Saturday's opener against Geelong at Marvel Stadium.

The dual-premiership midfielder, who is preparing to begin her fifth season with the Kangaroos, has been ruled out of the double-header against the Cats due to a groin injury.

"Taylah presented with right groin soreness last week, which we explored further with imaging," senior physiotherapist Billy Williams said.

"She unfortunately has pubic bone overload which will require a short offload to settle her symptoms.

"She's already turned a corner and her symptoms have significantly improved, which bodes well for her recovery."

Former captain Emma Kearney has also been ruled out of Saturday's season opener as she closes on a return from her hamstring injury.

"Emma continues to progress well, and completed our main training session today," Williams said on Tuesday.

"We have elected to hold her from Round 1, but we fully expect her to play Round 2 in Brisbane."

Defender Nicole Bresnehan also trained with the main group on Tuesday, and is approximately 3-5 weeks away from completing her recovery from her ACL injury.

Bresnehan is "moving confidently in contact and reactive change of direction tasks," Williams said.
