North coach Brad Scott believes new recruit Billy Hartung will thrive in a new environment, after joining the club via the NAB AFL Draft on Friday night.

Hartung was the Roos’ final selection at pick 77, having played 63 games at Hawthorn over the past four seasons.

“Most people are aware of Billy’s strengths. He’s an absolute elite runner.  We’re looking to bring that into our midfield,” Scott said following the Draft.

“We think he brings some game-breaking qualities. There are some things he needs to work on, but we’ve spoken to him about that, and we’re prepared to work really hard with him on those things.”

Scott is confident Hartung, the 24th selection at the 2013 Draft, can find a place in North’s 22.

“We think there’s a role for him to play,” he said.

“Billy knows he’s had his opportunity at Hawthorn and now he gets a second chance, and sometimes that’s the kick in the pants players need to really thrive and break through.”

Hartung was one of five players added via the Draft, with the recruits to join their new teammates at Arden Street on Monday.
