At the halfway point of the season, Todd Goldstein appeared to be the runaway leader in the 2015 Syd Barker Medal.

However the form of first-year Kangaroo, Shaun Higgins, may have changed the conversation.

The former Bulldog could have closed rapidly on Goldstein with his form during North’s six-game winning streak.

Back-to-back matches of 30+ disposals and two goals would likely have earned Higgins something close to full votes, while his consistency means he won’t struggle to poll throughout the year.

Drew Petrie has also hit a purple patch of form, complementing his defensive work with regular bags of multiple goals.

Since North returned from the bye, Petrie has kicked 18 goals in six appearances. It’s well ahead of all his teammates; the next on the list being Higgins, Lindsay Thomas and Jarrad Waite, all on 10.

The vice-captain has also handed off more scoring shots in the same time period. His nine assists from Round 14 have him at the top of the club leaderboard alongside Waite.

With more Roos rounding into form as the season draws on, it could mean a tighter than expected tussle at the top on Friday October 9 at the Peninsula on Central Pier.

Join all the North Melbourne players and coaches to reflect on the highlights and milestones of the 2015 season, and celebrate the winner of the prestigious Syd Barker Medal.
