Syd Barker Medalist Andrew Swallow has earnt yet another honour after a season to remember, named as joint vice-captain for his country.

Swallow will represent Australia for the first time during the two test International Rules Series against Ireland, and will share the leadership duties with Geelong's James Kelly and Melbourne's James Frawley. Another Demon, Brad Green will captain the team.

"(They) will serve us very well, because these players consistently produce good form on a week-to-week basis in AFL football, no matter the circumstances their teams are facing," team coach Rodney Eade said.

“In the short time we have been together as a group, each of them (Green, Swallow, Kelly and Frawley) are leaders in their training, preparation and willingness to always improve.”

The Australian squad will take part in a practice match on Tuesday evening and train again on Thursday before the series opener at Etihad Stadium.

The first Test will be played at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Friday October 28, with the second Test played at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast on Friday November 4. Both matches will be broadcast nationally by Network Ten and simulcast into Ireland via TG4.
