Head of Development, Gavin Brown spoke to North Media to give his view of last weekend’s match against Hawthorn, as well as who caught the eye.

The game

“We were really pleased with the game. It was 14 v 14 down at North Port Oval, which is a nice wide ground, so we got plenty out of it from a conditioning point of view.

“It was a really high standard game. The guys really enjoyed it and got plenty out of it.

“They played the North Melbourne style, so it was pleasing to be able to work on the game plan.

“We had some really significant contributors which was really pleasing. As Tristan Xerri and Jack Mahony showed last week, these games can put you in the frame for selection.”

Majak Daw

“Maj played the full game. He got through the game fine from an injury perspective. Fitness-wise he was blowing a bit, but that was expected. He played down back, and took some strong marks, and looked really good.”

Bailey Scott

“Bailey was fantastic. He was one of our better players. He was everywhere. He was really good last week as well, so he’s put two good games together. He spent a bit of time inside, as well as the wing.”

Sam Durdin and Ben McKay

“The two key defenders really stood out. Their form has been impressive in the last two weeks. We’ve got some really good depth in that position now.”

Tom Murphy

“Murph played down back and pinch-hit on the wing. He hadn’t played in a few weeks, but he did well and the run was good for him.”

Will Walker

“Will was really impressive. Along with Bailey (Scott), they were probably our two best players. He played an inside mid role and looked like a natural. He got a heap of the footy, covered the ground really well. A terrific performance.”
