LINDSAY Thomas' return to AFL ranks looks imminent after he put in an outstanding performance in the VFL on Saturday. 

The North Melbourne small forward should force his way back into the side to play Hawthorn after slotting through nine goals in North Ballarat's narrow two-point win over Williamstown.

Thomas' goalkicking struggles have been well documented and he was sent back to the lower level in order to find some form in front of the big sticks. 

Brad Scott couldn't have asked for any more from Thomas over the past three weeks with bags of three, four and now nine goals.

He also had 19 possessions and kicked three behinds for the afternoon.

Thomas' effort has somewhat overshadowed Cruize Garlett's 39-disposal performance at Eureka Stadium in Ballarat. 

The skilful midfielder also collected nine clearances and has strung together a brilliant run of games of late showing no trouble finding the ball. 

Highly rated youngster Shaun Atley could also be close to a senior return after 23 possessions, four clearances and seven tackles.

Aaron Mullet has already been identified as a possible Kangaroos' debutant in 2011 and the rookie's 21-disposal game which included five inside 50's will do his chances no harm.

North's defenders all made solid contributions including Daniel Pratt with 18 touches and five tackles, Cameron Delaney with 11 possessions and four spoils and Luke Delaney with 10 disposals and two spoils.

Ed Lower's first senior VFL game for the year was deemed a success after the 24 year-old collected 13 possessions and six tackles while Brayden Norris had 10 touches and four tackles.

Marcus White finished with 13 possessions, four tackles and three spoils and Aaron Black had a solitary goal to go with five disposals and five tackles.

In the VFL reserves, developing ruckman Ben Mabon had an encouraging day with 11 possessions and 21 hit-outs.
