Despite promising pre-season form, Gibson missed the first rookie elevation in the lead-up to Round 1. Impressively, it didn't faze him as he went back to Werribee and was arguably its best player in the first half of the season. He was eventually elevated to the senior list in the lead up to the game against Gold Coast and made his debut in Round 12.

Gibson was a revelation for the rest of the season with his hard running and ability to collect large amounts of the ball. Following the end of the season, Gibson signed a new contract keeps him at North through to the end of 2014.
