Liam Anthony has responded in the best possible way to his omission from the side North Melbourne with a best-on-ground performance for North Ballarat.

Wearing the number 71 guernsey, Anthony racked up 33 possessions and used the ball effectively by foot (75%) in an otherwise disappointing performance by the Roosters.

The 24-year old also laid seven tackles, and he had plenty of assistance in the midfield from Cruize Garlett (31 disposals).

Garlett gave his all in the middle and managed nine clearances, but the pair’s efforts were in vain as Gerard Fitzgerald's team slumped to 11th position following an 81-point defeat.

Cameron Richardson was another who battled tirelessly all day and amassed 27 touches, 12 of those contested, and eight one-percenters, while Aaron Mullett tried hard (23 possessions) but would have been a little disappointed with his kicking efficiency.

Key-forward Aaron Black pulled down eight marks just days after signing a new contract at Aegis Park and in another positive for the club, 2011 draftee Tom Curran got through his first senior game unscathed and kicked a goal.

Ben Mabon was valiant in the ruck against three Hawthorn-listed big men, but didn’t receive much of a chop-out from his team-mates. He finished with 22 hit-outs and 11 disposals in a brave performance.

Rookie Gavin Urquhart finished the game with six one-percenters to go with his 15 possessions.

The Roosters have won just two games for the season and now look ahead to facing the seventh-placed Cats in a fortnight.
