North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says news of Ryan Bastinac agreeing to a new contract is a sign of a bright future for the club’s up-and-comers.

"I think it's another vote of confidence in our playing group,” Scott told kangaroos.com.au.

“We've got a group of really exciting, driven players coming through and Ryan's a really important part of that.”

Despite media speculation Bastinac’s signature was being chased by several opposition clubs, Scott claims Aegis Park was always the preferred choice for the young midfielder.

"He's got a lot of really close mates here and they sense there's something they want to build together. It's another vote of confidence in the football club."

Bastinac’s new deal will see him in the royal blue and white until at least the end of 2014.
