Ben Ross has put a forgettable week behind him with a best on ground performance for Werribee in its semi-final win over Casey.

Delisted on Thursday by North Melbourne, the 22-year old bounced back in the best way possible with 19 disposals and four goals. Showing great character to play one of his best games of the year, the midfielder set up the win with three goals in the first half and provided plenty of run around the ground.

“It was good to kick a couple after a disappointing day the other day,” Ross told the ABC following the match.

“I'm just happy for the guys to get a really good win and move into the Preliminary Final.”

Going into the match as underdogs against the Scorpions, the Tigers led from the outset and were never headed thanks largely to the North Melbourne listed players.

Ben McKinley (14 disposals, five marks) had an ongoing battle with Melbourne's Matthew Warnock and the pair grappled on several occasions off the ball. The hard-working Kangaroo had the last laugh though with several marks and some terrific forward pressure.

If not for some inaccurate kicking, McKinley could have kicked a bag but his two goals were extremely valuable nevertheless.

Fellow mid-sized forward Ben Warren (12 possessions, six marks) was another who was impressive up forward and also booted two goals.

At the other end of the ground, Jamie Macmillan had a tough day after copping two heavy knocks including one to the ribcage, but he recovered and worked hard to rebound from defence. Gavin Urquhart had some great moments off half-back, particularly in the second half, with his pinpoint accuracy inside 50.

The ever-improving Majak Daw held down the number-one ruck duties in the absence of Hamish McIntosh and went up against Max Gawn and the experienced Robert Campbell.

North's players stole the spotlight from an in-form Brendan Fevola, with the former AFL player ending the day without a goal to his name.

Werribee is now into a Preliminary Final following the 62-point win and will face Williamstown.
