They'll be on opposite sides for the first time on Saturday night but Brisbane coach Michael Voss still has plenty of respect for Brad Scott, a teammate with whom he shared so much success.

“Brad’s doing very well. I only have an external view on how his football club operates, but he seems to have made his own serious footprint on the club which is good,” Voss told lions.com.au.

The pair played in two premierships together in a golden era at Brisbane and the former captain says Scott has already shown all the assets that made him one of the toughest defenders in the AFL.

“Brad as a player was very team-oriented. He was very big on playing a role within a team and I’m sure that’s going to be a constant message from him to his players.

“He also brings with him that same dogged competitive spirit he had as a player. He has all those attributes.”

Voss' Lions sit ninth on the table and are fresh from an exciting win against Collingwood but the second-year coach says the Kangaroos are sure to provide a strong challenge for his team.

“They are coming off a pretty big loss and if any game suits a team like North Melbourne, it’s this game against us - with those ‘backs to the wall’ type competitive messages to their players,” he added.

Voss said key forwards Brendan Fevola and Jonathan Brown both pulled up well from Saturday night's taxing affair.

“They’re both good - really good. We’ll get some more training under their belts and those particular guys should gradually improve."

Young defender Nathan Grima could have the big task of going one-on-one with Brown after the young defender had the better of Docker Matthew Pavlich at Subiaco, while Scott Thompson looks the likely match-up for the in-form Fevola.
