Bastinac North's Rising Star
Ryan Bastinac from the North Melbourne Football Club is the round three NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.
Ryan was outstanding for the Kangaroos in their 25 point win over the West Coast Eagles at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
While limiting the influence of key West Coast playmakers Daniel Kerr and Matt Priddis, Ryan gathered 24 disposals of his own including six inside-50s, four clearances and three tackles.
Ryan was among North Melbourne’s best players on debut in round one against Port Adelaide gathering 23 touches and has played all three matches this season.
“Ryan had an outstanding pre-season and he has carried that form through the opening rounds. We have been really impressed with his rapid development and all North Melbourne supporters should be encouraged by his talent, work ethic and ability. We expect big things from Ryan in the future and his performance on Saturday against Daniel Kerr was just one small example of what he’s capable of,” North Melbourne coach Brad Scott said.
Hailing from the Narree Warren Football Club and the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup, Ryan was North Melbourne’s second round selection at the 2009 NAB AFL Draft and pick 21 overall.
He co-captained the Dandenong Stingrays team in 2009 alongside Melbourne’s number one draft pick Tom Scully.
Ryan was a standout at the 2009 NAB AFL Draft Camp and his beep test result of 15.1 ranks him in the top five for current AFL players to have tested at the camp.
Ryan will be speaking to the media today at Arden Street from 2.00pm - stay tuned to kangaroos.com.au for video and articles following the press conference.
