Ben Ross has been named as best-on-ground for Werribee after its hard fought win over Bendigo in the VFL on Saturday.

With Prime Minister and Tigers’ patron Julia Gillard watching on from the sidelines, Ross used his electrifying pace to collect 28 possessions in the nine-point win.

It was described as his ‘best game for the year’ by North Melbourne development coach John Lamont and also included two goals.

Ross was everywhere in the first half and continued to apply pressure on his Bombers opponents throughout the game.

However his performance was almost overshadowed by yet another Majak Daw highlight.

The Sudanese-born ruckman had the crowd on its feet after dashing through the middle of the ground, taking several bounces and slotting through a goal from about 40 metres out.

It’s the second time this year Daw has opted to take on the opposition with his athleticism and ability to finish.

Outside of that breathtaking effort, Daw was relatively quiet with eight possessions, four marks and 22 hit-outs.

It was another encouraging week for Ben McKinley who had five goals. Inaccuracy hurt the medium forward again with four behinds also registered.

Ben Warren played alongside McKinley in the forward line and collected 15 touches, nine marks and a goal, while in defence Nathan Grima was outstanding with 20 disposals and Jamie Macmillan was ‘very effective across half-back’ with 18 possessions.

There was plenty of interest in Hamish McIntosh throughout the week and he also put in a solid contribution with 16 touches, a goal and plenty of hit-outs going up against Essendon-listed ruckman Tom Bellchambers.

Gavin Urquhart had 12 possessions while in the reserves, developing Kangaroos’ ruckman Ben Mabon kicked fur goals before rolling his ankle in the final term.
