At quarter time on Saturday at Eureka Stadium, North Ballarat led Frankston by 26-points; seemingly a margin coach Gerald FitzGerald would be content with.

However, in a move rarely seen, FitzGerald approached Kangaroos’ forward Aaron Edwards and asked him to share his thoughts on the Roosters' forward structure.

Edwards, a player who has worked hard on his leadership traits, stepped up to the mark.

"I like to entrust my players and leaders if they think they can value-add to the team, then to speak up," FitzGerald told The Courier.

"Aaron's now had a significant amount of football experience...we have a lot of experience in our players and we have to wonder whether we're using it all."

Edwards responded perfectly to his omission a fortnight ago from the North Melbourne side with an impressive career high 32 possessions and 10 marks. Despite not kicking a goal, FitzGerald called it 'significant' for Edwards to be named in North Ballarat's best as he set up countless forward attacks.

"Goals should come from a spread of players. If you're reliant on one key player to kick goals every week, it's just not sustainable," FitzGerald said.

The superb performance from Edwards now creates a selection dilemma for North Melbourne's upcoming clash with St Kilda, with several forwards in strong form.
