For every player that walks through the doors at Aegis Park, winning the respect of his team-mates is paramount.

It’s something vice-captain Drew Petrie has accomplished many times over since arriving at the club in 2000.

The ultimate professional, Petrie was presented with the Jason McCartney Jumper award at the club's Syd Barker Medal Wednesday night.

Petrie was nominated by his team-mates as the player that epitomises the values displayed by McCartney - who made a remarkable comeback after life threatening injuries from the Bali bombings.

“It’s an award that I’m going to certainly hold close to my heart,” Petrie said.

Returning from injury in 2011, Petrie capped off a great season with selection into the All-Australian team.
