1. Lindsay Thomas soccer goal
Just three-points separate the two teams as Ryan Bastinac gets his hands on the ball across half-forward late in the first term. He dishes a handball to Kieran Harper, who quickly hands it to captain Andrew Swallow. Swallow’s kick inside 50 falls at the feet of Lachlan Hansen who can’t gather it cleanly. The Crows’ Rory Sloane gathers the crumb but his handball is cut off by Leigh Adams who knocks the ball towards the goals. Thomas’ pace comes to the fore as he runs past Matthew Jaensch and soccers a clever goal to ignite the home crowd.

2. Ryan Bastinac goal
In his first game back in North Melbourne colours, Lachlan Hansen puts on a long chase on Adelaide’s Brodie Martin late in the first quarter. His persistence is rewarded as Martin shanks his kick. Taylor Walker is unable to gather and the ball falls to Brent Harvey on the wing. He dishes a handball to Scott Thompson who finds Bastinac in traffic. Aware of the pressure, he turns inboard and finds a running Shaun Atley heading towards goal. The number 18 draws a player before handballing over the top to Thomas in space. He’s quickly put under pressure, but dishes a clever ball back to Bastinac who had continued to run on. From 30 metres he kicks a terrific goal.

3. Robbie Tarrant strong mark and goal
Only seconds remain as the opening quarter siren nears as the ball is bounced on North’s half-forward line. Sensing the moment, Daniel Wells flies over the top as the third man up and punches the ball further afield. Adelaide’s Bernie Vince is unable to gather and Adams takes the crumbs. He bombs the ball forward to a dangerous position. Brent Reilly has a tight grip on Tarrant, but somehow the big forward is able to push off him and take a strong one-grab mark. As the siren sounds he kicks a vital goal from a set shot.

4. Kangaroos on the counter
The pressure is well and truly on with the Crows closing fast. Just 23-points separate the two teams as Sam Wright looks for an option deep in defence late in the third term. Wright takes the risky option of handballing to a running Atley who has two Crows’ opponents not far away. With composure, Atley breaks a tackle with ease, evades the diving Jason Porplyzia and finds an option in the middle of the ground in Hansen. He quickly hits up Drew Petrie who has found a gap on his opponent. The vice-captain spots Thomas on a searching lead and hits him on the chest. In the blink of an eye, North has gone from one end to the other. Thomas is confident on his approach and gets the desired result to help his side to a handy lead.

5. Kieran Harper goal
The game is still very much in the balance in the opening minute of the last quarter. Richard Douglas has the footy at half-back and has space to sum up his options. As he collects the footy, he’s tripped by his own team-mate and the ball and the player spill to the ground. Still closest to the ball, Douglas is quickly hunted down by Thomas and Harper; the former makes important body contact, while the latter swoops onto the loose ball. Harper trusts his instincts and his pace, and dashes past Sam Shaw to kick a brilliant running goal.
