West Coast v North Melbourne
Patersons Stadium
Sunday September 9, 1.15pm WST/3.15pm EST

North Melbourne’s leaders have stood tall in 2012, with Drew Petrie, Daniel Wells and Andrew Swallow receiving nominations as the league’s most valuable player.

The trio has been outstanding for the Kangaroos and helped propel them into the finals for the first time since 2008.

Swallow will also be a strong chance for the Best Captain award, while Leigh Adams’ attack on the football and ability to play with injury has earned him nomination for the Most Courageous Player Award.

Mature age recruit Sam Gibson has seized his opportunity at senior level in the second half of the season and has been rewarded with nomination for the Best First Year Player Award.

The MVP voting process begins with each team voting for the three players which provide the best overall value to their own team.

Then, in the second round of voting, all AFL players choose from the list of 51 nominees to determine who will be the MVP (they cannot vote for players from their own team in second round).

The MVP remains the only peer voted award in the AFL industry and is celebrating its 30th year.

The 2012 AFL Players’ Association MVP Award Winners will be announced on Tuesday 11 September at Peninsula, Shed 14 Central Pier, Docklands and will be broadcast exclusively on Fox Footy Channel at 9.30pm.
