Andrew Swallow has made a habit of stepping up in important games and Friday night was no exception.

The 2009 Syd Barker Medal winner finished the game against Carlton with 33 possessions and nine tackles, but it was his workrate and will to push from contest to contest that caught the eye of those watching on.

He polled six votes from Brett Ratten and Brad Scott in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year.

Other than two quiet games in rounds 14 and 15, Swallow has been one of the club's most consistent performers in 2011, and is right in the mix to claim his second best and fairest award.

Swallow has averaged a career-high 26 possessions this season and continues to be as good defensively with 117 tackles.
