Every Wednesday, we'll be heading into the archive to recap some of the great games throughout North Melbourne's rich history.

This week, we take you back to 1999, and a classic match against St Kilda at the SCG.

After the heartbreak of losing a very winnable Grand Final in 1998, as a scoreline of 8.22 haunted Denis Pagan and his team against Adelaide, North Melbourne was out for redemption.

But 1999 didn't start the way the Roos would have hoped.

In fact, after four games, North was languishing towards the bottom of the table with just one victory.

Up next were the Saints, and the first of the Roos' four home games at the SCG, an arrangement that was in place in different formats between 1999-2002.

Injury sidelined star Wayne Carey, and Tim Watson's St Kilda side boasted talent across all lines, coming off successive finals' appearances. This was not going to be an easy task for North.

A 17-year-old from Tasmania by the name of Brady Rawlings was lining up for just his third AFL game, while Lenny Hayes debuted for the Saints.

Hayes experienced one of the more unforgettable introductions to football, from none other than Glenn Archer, with a huge bump on the wing.

It was an even first quarter, but the likes of Jason Heatley, Stewart Loewe and Robert Harvey made their marks for St Kilda, opening up a 19-point lead at the main change.

Then, North started on the comeback trail, starting with Winston Abraham.
