North Melbourne club legend Brent Harvey says the club’s crop of rising stars hold the key to the future.

With Jack Mahony, Tristan Xerri and Lachie Hosie debuting this season and another in Flynn Perez this Saturday, Harvey says they can only get better with more experience.

“Jack Mahony has played a lot of football this year, Lachie Hosie has played the last couple of games. The more football we can give to those young guys coming through and that experience, once they’ve got 20 and 30 games under their belt, they’ll go again to the next level,” Harvey told SEN.

Harvey is confident the club‘s success can be built on its youngsters.

“I always look at the youth. Curtis Taylor, Bailey Scott, Tarryn Thomas. Cam Zurhaar is another one,” he said.

“Tristan Xerri is going to be an excellent ruckman. He’s aggressive, I love the way he goes about it.

“I think we’ve got five Rising Star nominees in the team so you can build something around that model pretty well.

“I still believe we need a couple more good A-grade players into the football club but keep the youth. Don’t go off and get recycled players that are C-graders. I don’t really believe that helps.

“But you can build a team around some of the youth we’ve got.”
