North Melbourne will head to Tasmania on Sunday for its Round 7 clash against Melbourne.

The Kangaroos were forced into quarantine upon their return from Perth on Sunday, with the Victorian Government declaring it a ‘red zone’.

With the Western Australia government’s three-day lockdown ending on Tuesday, Victoria downgraded the risk level to orange allowing players and staff to reintegrate with the community upon a negative COVID test.

North CEO, Ben Amarfio, confirmed the club received formal clearance from the Tasmanian Government authorities that the game could go ahead as planned due to the lifting of their border restrictions.

“The Victorian and Tasmanian Governments have been transparent and vigilant throughout the process,” Amarfio said.

“It was a delicate situation, but ultimately, we have the best outcome possible and will play in Hobart for the first time this season.”

Amarfio said the club was thrilled for its Tasmanian football fans, who will get to see the team play at Blundstone Arena for the first time in more than 18 months.

“We have close to six thousand members and lots of supporters in Tasmania who have all been deprived with no football being played in Tassie last season,” he said.

“Melbourne is a top of the ladder team and we expect a great contest and can’t wait to provide some real entertainment for everyone.

“The boys will be ready to go come Sunday and we’re really looking forward to a strong turnout.”
