Birbeck took part in the North Melbourne ‘Scratch & Win’ raffle and to her delight, was the lucky winner of the major prize.
“I was in shock. I was so excited and couldn’t believe it when Cam called to tell me I had won,” Birbeck told kangaroos.com.au.
“I bought two tickets on two separate occasions but I certainly didn’t expect to win, I just wanted to support the club and give back in any way I could.”
Birbeck has been a member since the late 90’s making her a deserved winner. She lives in Happy Valley, South Australia and can’t attend many games, but is as passionate as the next member. Her husband Stephen is an avid Port Adelaide supporter but he hasn’t changed Patricia’s mind over the years.
“I actually went to the same high school as Malcolm Blight so I chose to support North because of that connection and I haven’t changed since. Even though I rarely get to see any games live I still love North Melbourne,” she added.
“Our last few wins have been fantastic, especially the win against the Crows since most of our friends barrack for Adelaide. I always wear my North Melbourne cap when I walk our dog, so for the last few weeks I’ve been able to wear it with even more pride.”
Now that Patricia has 30,000 more reasons to smile, the next thing on the agenda apart from another win for her beloved Kangaroos, is how to spend the winnings.
“I haven’t decided what to do with the money yet but my husband and I are hoping to do something nice for us. We do have 4 children and 11 grandchildren so there is plenty of family to share it around.”
