North Melbourne will bolster its football program and significantly enhance its focus on list and talent, by acquiring a new General Manager of Football Performance.

In a restructure prompted by current GM Football, Brady Rawlings, North will bring in more experience, knowledge and expertise to its football department.

Under the new structure, Rawlings will become General Manager of Football Talent and will oversee all areas relating to talent identification and player acquisition while the new GM of Football Performance will oversee all on-field football programs including coaching, high performance and medical, operations, player development and wellness, and soft cap management.

“As some clubs have already identified, the role of a Football GM in today’s environment has become an immense job and is too large a portfolio for just one person,” North CEO Ben Amarfio said.

“This new dual structure allows us to not only bring another senior person into our football program but importantly, place the necessary focus on the most important aspect of our current rebuild which is talent acquisition.

“It gives us the chance to completely re-imagine and develop this vital part of our football program.”

Rawlings, who after much consideration prompted the move, is looking forward to the shift.

“We are entering one of the most exciting phases of the club’s history and it’s too important for us not to have the best possible support,” he said.

“This new dual structure allows us to really bolster and improve the most important areas of our program. We’re really excited about making this critical adjustment.”

Current General Manager of Strategy and Football Operations, Laura Kane, will transition out of day-to-day football operations and will concentrate solely on club strategy.
