Unselected in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft, Jacob Edwards’ rise from a Victorian Metro League division four player to the number one selection of the mid-season draft has been frankly ridiculous.

At 202 centimetres tall, Edwards is a project player for the club who will look to strengthen his frame in order to compete at the top level.

Capable of playing as a key forward or a ruck, Edwards’ early development looks set to come in the forward line as he adapts to the pace and power of senior football.

2022: Edwards spent his first full season on the list mostly developing his ruck craft in the VFL.

After prioritising his year 12 studies at the backend of last year, the 2021 No.1 mid-season draft selection played 15 games in the reserves, averaging 9.7 hitouts and 7.1 disposals.

Continuing to adapt to the high-octane nature of senior football, Edwards, at 202cm, could soon become a damaging player both in the ruck and as a key forward for the Kangaroos.

He'll receive competition as well as guidance from the likes of Todd Goldstein, Tristan Xerri and Callum Coleman-Jones, while newly rookie drafted Hamish Free will also enter the big man mix during 2023.
