1. ABOUT THIS PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy applies to the North Melbourne Football Club Limited (ABN 21 006 468 962) (we, our, us, North Melbourne) and explains how we collect, use, store and share your personal information. Personal information is any information about you, or that could reasonably be used to identify you.

Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to complying with all applicable privacy laws in handling your personal information, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act).

We take the protection of your personal information seriously, whether you are a supporter, employee, player or business partner. We handle all personal information collected in connection with our products, services and club and business activities in accordance with this Privacy Policy and our legal obligations.

2. CONSENT

By providing us with your personal information, you consent to us handling it in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Where we collect your personal information in a specific context, we may give you a separate collection notice at that time with further details relevant to that collection. If you choose not to provide certain personal information, you may not be able to participate in some club activities and we may not be able to provide you with some of our products or services.

2.1 Sensitive information

Some of the personal information we collect may be ‘sensitive information’ under the Privacy Act. This includes health information and information about your racial or ethnic origin, which we may collect in certain circumstances (for example, in relation to North Melbourne competitions and programs, or employment with North Melbourne).

We will only collect sensitive information about you with your consent (for example, for health, medical and anti-doping testing purposes and investigation of disputes), or where we are otherwise permitted or required to do so by law.

3. HOW DOES NORTH MELBOURNE COLLECT, USE AND DISCLOSE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We may also receive your personal information from third parties for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, for example, from the AFL’s or our corporate partners, the AFL’s approved wagering partners, or from publicly available records. We will handle any such information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

If you connect your use of AFL Online to a third-party website or social media service (for example, by logging in through Facebook), that service may share your information with us, and we may post your activity on that platform at your request. If you later remove or disconnect the linked third-party feature, we may keep information we collected before the disconnection in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

3.2  Information we collect automatically

When you use AFL Online, we collect certain technical information automatically, including via our third-party service providers. This information includes your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and how you use the site. We may also use cookies and similar technologies to collect this information. 3.3  Persons under 18

In some circumstances, we may collect personal information about a person under the age of 18 from their parent or legal guardian, for example where a person under the age of 18 is participating in a North Melbourne competition, program or event.

3.4  General purposes for which we use and disclose your personal information

Regardless of how you interact with us, we may use or disclose your personal information for the following general purposes. These are not repeated in each section below:

  • to verify your identity;
  • to manage our and the AFL’s relationships with you;
  • to support our and the AFL’s day-to-day operations;

  • provide products and services to you, manage your accounts, and improve our offerings;
  • undertake research and data analysis to improve our, AFL and/or AFL Club products and services (including by comparing de-identified data with AFL and AFL Club partner datasets);
  • enable our, AFL and AFL Club corporate partners, sponsors and their associated entities to market and promote their products and services to you (where you have agreed to receive marketing communications from those partners);
  • improve AFL and AFL Club products and services using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, for example, to provide more relevant content and personalise your experience; and
  • where your personal information is shared with us by the AFL or the AFL's approved wagering partners, help protect the integrity of Australian football matches and competitions.

4. FOR AFL ONLINE USERS

4.1  Accessing AFL Online

In this Privacy Policy, “AFL Online” means the AFL’s website at https://www.afl.com.au, all related sub-domains, any other AFL or AFL Club website that provides AFL or AFL Club products or services, all related mobile applications, and all digital products and applications accessible through AFLiD (as described below).

4.2  AFLiD

AFLiD is the AFL’s single sign-on identity service. It enables you to use a single login to access a range of AFL digital products and services. Registering for an AFLiD account is free of charge. AFLiD-connected applications include:

  • com.au - the official AFL website;
  • AFL Live App - the official AFL app, published on the Australian iOS and Android app stores;
  • AFL Fantasy - a team-building competition; and
  • AFL Tipping - the official AFL footy tipping competition.

A person under the age of 18 should only use AFL Online with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian and should not register with AFL Online or otherwise provide us with any personal information without the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

You can browse AFL Online without identifying yourself. However, where you provide us with personal information, we will handle that information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Please note that when you register an AFLiD account, your personal information may be accessible as necessary for the purposes of the AFLiD-connected digital products and applications that you choose to use with that account. We will also automatically collect certain technical information about your visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you access, including from our third-party service providers. This information is used for internal statistical purposes and to improve AFL Online.

4.3  What kinds of my personal information does North Melbourne collect?

In addition to the general purposes described in Section 3, we may also use or disclose your personal information for the following specific purposes:

  • to improve AFL Online;
  • to personalise your online experience; and
  • to enable your single sign-on access to AFLiD-connected digital products and services, including verifying your identity.

The AFL may use “cookies” on AFL Online. A cookie is a small text file that AFL Online may place on your device. 5. FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO PURCHASE AFL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES OR PARTICIPATE IN AFL PROMOTIONS AND EVENTS

5.1  What kinds of my personal information does North Melbourne collect?

We may collect the following types of personal information:

  • your name, age and/or date of birth, residential, billing and/or shipping address, email address, gender, ethnicity and/or cultural heritage, occupation, telephone number(s) and the AFL Club you support (note: ethnicity and/or cultural heritage is sensitive information under the Privacy Act and will only be collected with your consent, or as permitted or required by law);

In addition to the general purposes described in Section 3, we may also use or disclose your personal information for the following specific purposes:

  • to process your purchases of AFL products and services, including managing orders and facilitating order fulfilment and delivery;
  • to assist the AFL in facilitating AFL promotions, competitions and events in which you participate, including processing entry details, determining eligibility, selecting and notifying winners, and distributing prizes and rewards;
  • to assist the AFL in managing your attendance at AFL events and venues, including administering ticketing and access arrangements; and
  • to improve AFL event and venue experiences.

7. FOR AFL AND NORTH MELBOURNE MEMBERS

7.1  What kinds of my personal information does North Melbourne collect?

We may collect the following types of personal information:

  • your name, age and/or date of birth, residential, billing and/or shipping address, email address, gender, ethnicity and/or cultural heritage, occupation, telephone number(s) and the AFL Club you support (note: ethnicity and/or cultural heritage is sensitive information under the Privacy Act and will only be collected with your consent, or as permitted or required by law);
  • information relating to your AFL Membership (if any), including your membership category and tier (e.g. Gold, Silver or Bronze), club of support nomination, membership and ticketing history, match attendance records, and barcode usage;
  • information relating to your North Melbourne Membership, including your membership category, membership and ticketing history, match attendance records, and barcode usage;
  • your participation in promotions or activities administered by the AFL or any AFL Club;
  • opinions and beliefs provided via surveys and questionnaires;
  • your health information, including disability or accessibility requirements relevant to your North Melbourne Membership (note: this is sensitive information under the Privacy Act and will only be collected with your consent, or as permitted or required by law);
  • your financial and payment information, including credit card details, payment plan arrangements and transaction history relating to your AFL Membership or North Melbourne Membership; and
  • documentation provided to support your eligibility for concession discounts, family discounts or other membership benefits (for example, concession cards, student enrolment forms, proof of residency and photo identification).

7.2  Why does North Melbourne collect, use and disclose my personal information?

In addition to the general purposes described in Section 3, we may also use or disclose your personal information for the following specific purposes:

  • to manage AFL and/or North Melbourne venues and events;
  • to administer your AFL Membership and/or North Melbourne Membership entitlements, including managing ticket and match access for Premiership Season matches, Finals Series matches and the AFL Grand Final and providing disability, accessibility and inclusion support;
  • to process your AFL Membership and/or North Melbourne Membership fees and administer any payment plan arrangements, including verifying and retaining credit card details;
  • to verify your eligibility for concession discounts, family discounts, and other membership benefits; and
  • to share your contact details with the AFL for marketing purposes, where you have not opted out.

8. FOR PLAYERS, COACHES, ADMINISTRATORS, VOLUNTEERS, EMPLOYEES AND JOB CANDIDATES

8.1  Who does this section apply to?

This section applies to all persons who hold a formal role in connection with North Melbourne and North Melbourne - affiliated Australian football competitions, events and programs. This includes North Melbourne - affiliated registered players participating in Australian football competitions and programs at all levels, including AFL and AFLW; coaches at all levels of competition; club administrators and team managers; volunteers; and persons engaged directly by North Melbourne as employees, contractors, job applicants, draftees or volunteers.

For juniors who have a formal role, this section also covers personal information collected about their parent or guardian for registration and child safety purposes.

8.2  What kinds of my personal information does North Melbourne collect?

We may collect the following types of personal information:

  • your name, age and/or date of birth, residential address, email address, gender, ethnicity and/or cultural heritage, occupation, telephone number(s) (note: ethnicity and/or cultural heritage is sensitive information under the Privacy Act and will only be collected with your consent, or as permitted or required by law);
  • information relating to your registration, role or position (e.g. player, coach, team manager, volunteer), club and team affiliations, accreditations and qualifications (such as coaching licences), and history (e.g. player history and statistics or registration history);
  • emergency contact details (name, relationship and telephone number), for use in the event of an injury or medical emergency;
  • your education and work history (for employees and job applicants);
  • identity documents such as your passport details (for employees and job applicants);
  • information on your dealings with us, or your participation in Australian football competitions, promotions, activities and programs administered by the AFL or any other AFL Club;
  • financial information, including payment records relating to registration fees, insurance levies and similar charges; and
  • your health information, including medical history, injury records and disability or accessibility requirements relevant to your role (note: this is sensitive information under the Privacy Act and will only be collected with your consent, or as permitted or required by law);
  • for juniors, your school and personal information about a parent or guardian (including name, contact details and consent records), collected to fulfil child protection and registration requirements; and
  • criminal background checks and child safety screening information, including Working with Children Check numbers, national police check outcomes and other screening results required under applicable state or territory legislation, in respect of persons in child-related roles (note: this is sensitive information under the Privacy Act and will only be collected with your consent, or as permitted or required by law).

8.3  Why does North Melbourne collect, use and disclose my personal information?

In addition to the general purposes described in Section 3, we also use your personal information for the following specific purposes:

  • to administer and facilitate your role in Australian football competitions, events and programs at all levels, including AFL and AFLW, and to manage your registration and accreditation where applicable;
  • to administer child safety and safeguarding obligations in connection with your role, including verifying and maintaining current records of Working with Children Check status and other screening requirements for persons in child-related roles, and complying with applicable state or territory child safety legislation;
  • for individuals under the age of 18, to fulfil child protection and safeguarding obligations, including obtaining and maintaining records of parental or guardian consent for participation and complying with applicable child safety requirements;
  • to administer insurance arrangements associated with your role in Australian football competitions and programs, including managing claims and incident reports, where applicable;
  • to administer and facilitate the AFL Draft and AFLW Draft;
  • to communicate with you about Australian football competitions, training schedules, events, programs and relevant updates relating to your role;
  • to share your information with the AFL, relevant state and territory football bodies, community clubs and other competition administrators as necessary to facilitate your role in Australian football competitions and programs, where applicable;
  • to assess and process your application for a role with North Melbourne, including evaluating your suitability for employment or a volunteer position;
  • to manage your employment or engagement with North Melbourne, including for payroll and superannuation administration, performance management, training and development, and compliance with our workplace health and safety obligations;
  • to conduct pre-employment and pre-engagement screening, including criminal background checks, Working with Children checks (where applicable to the role), and verification of your right to work in Australia;
  • to monitor compliance with AFL rules and regulations; and
  • to manage our venues and events.

9. HOW DOES NORTH MELBOURNE SECURE AND STORE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We take reasonable steps to protect all personal information that we hold from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This includes taking reasonable steps to hold information securely in electronic or physical form.

Wherever reasonably practicable, we store personal information on data servers located within Australia, and we require our third-party service providers to do the same. However, some of your personal information may be transferred to, stored, processed or disclosed overseas by us or our third-party service providers where permitted by law. As at the date this Privacy Policy was last updated, this may include recipients in the United States of America. This may occur where our service providers are based overseas, or where a transaction or service has an international connection.

If your personal information is held overseas, you may have rights under the data protection laws of that country, though these may differ from your rights under Australian privacy law. North Melbourne will generally remain responsible for ensuring that any overseas recipient handles your personal information in a manner consistent with the Privacy Act.

Except where we are required to retain your personal information by law, we will destroy or permanently de-identify your information when it is no longer needed for any lawful purpose. We may retain your personal information for longer periods where necessary for legal, regulatory, audit or dispute resolution purposes.

You can also request deletion of your AFLiD from the AFL’s databases by contacting the AFL using the details set out in Section 13. Please note however, that in fulfilling a deletion request for your AFLiD, you may no longer be able to receive some AFL and/or AFL Club products and services.

10. WHO DOES NORTH MELBOURNE SHARE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION WITH?

We may disclose your personal information to third parties for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, including:

  • the AFL;
  • AFL and North Melbourne corporate partners, sponsors, agents, agencies, third-party vendors and their associated entities;
  • relevant state and territory football bodies, community clubs, and other competition administrators and integrity bodies; and
  • third-party service providers we engage to perform services in connection with the operation of our business, including ticketing services in connection with AFL and/or AFL Club events, payment processing and authorisation, fraud protection and credit risk reduction, product customisation, order fulfilment and shipping, marketing and promotional material distribution, website evaluation, AFL and AFL Club fan data research and analysis, and data cleansing.

We require those third parties to use your information only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or for other purposes permitted or authorised by law.

We may also share elements of personal information with third parties in aggregated form that does not identify individual users.

11. DIRECT MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS

We may use your personal information to personalise the products, services and offerings we provide to you. This may include providing you with targeted advertising and marketing communications, including sending you information and promotional material about us or the AFL as well as the products and services of North Melbourne or AFL partners (Direct Marketing Communications).

11.1          Opt-out/unsubscribe

If you would like to opt-out of receiving Direct Marketing Communications, you can do so as follows:

  • Electronic Direct Marketing Communications: You can opt-out of Direct Marketing Communications at any time by using the "unsubscribe" or other similar feature included on all electronic Direct Marketing Communications.
  • AFLiD: If you have a registered AFLiD account, you can also update your marketing preferences via your AFLiD account settings and unsubscribe from Direct Marketing Communications for particular AFL and/or AFL Club products you no longer wish to receive.
  • Other Direct Marketing Communications: Alternatively, you can easily unsubscribe at any time from our Direct Marketing Communications by contacting us using the contact details specified in Section 13 of this Privacy Policy. Once such a request is received, we will ensure you are unsubscribed as requested within 5 business days.

If you opt-out, you will still receive non-marketing communications from North Melbourne or the AFL, such as changes to our terms and conditions or receipts for your purchases.

Please note that if you unsubscribe from a particular AFL or AFL Club mailing list, you will be removed from that specific list only. You may still receive communications from other AFL or AFL Club mailing lists that you have previously subscribed to separately.

11.2          Source of information

You may request us to identify the source of the personal information that we use for direct marketing purposes in accordance with this Privacy Policy. We aim to respond to such requests within 30 days.

12.1          Right to correction

If you have an AFLiD account, you can access and update your personal information in connection with that account registration via your account settings.

Alternatively, you can request correction of your personal information by using the contact details set out in Section 13 below.

We will generally respond to your correction request within 30 days. In some circumstances, we may decline a correction request as permitted by the Privacy Act, and if so, we will provide you with a written explanation.

12.2          Right to access

If you would like to request access to your personal information, please contact us using the contact details set out in Section 13 below. You will be required to provide proof of identity in order to obtain access to your personal information.

We will generally respond to your access request within 30 days. In some circumstances, we may decline an access request as permitted by the Privacy Act, and if so, we will provide you with a written explanation.

In some circumstances, we may charge an administration fee for providing access to your personal information. We will always tell you the amount of any fee before we process your request.

12.3          Queries and complaints

If you have a query, concern or complaint about this Privacy Policy or our handling of your personal information, including in relation to an alleged breach of privacy, you can contact us using the contact details set out in Section 13 below.

At all times, privacy requests and complaints:
