Ash Riddell is tackled during a training session ahead of the 2022 AFLW season

The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos will ramp up the pressure on their AFLW opponents as they aim to take the next step in 2022, midfielder Ash Riddell says.

The Roos' 2021 campaign ended in a heartbreaking qualifying final loss to Collingwood, and Riddell said the team is determined to go deeper into the finals this season.

"We reviewed last season and at times our pressure wasn't up to scratch," Riddell told North Media. "One of the non-negotiables of our team going into this season is that we have to lock the ball in as much as possible."

"We've also got to make sure we're hitting the forwards out in front and linking up with them this season, and have that forward pressure."

Heading into her fourth season, Riddell, 25, has been at the club since it joined the AFLW in 2019, and says she's been privileged to learn from the best at the Roos.

"Emma Kearney, Jassy Garner, Jenna Bruton, they were all established guns of the game before I stepped foot at North Melbourne," Riddell said.

"Learning as much as I can off them has been the focus, because they're the masters of it."

The Kangaroos begin their 2022 AFLW campaign in front of the faithful at Arden St on Saturday, January 8.
