While Majak Daw is one step closer to achieving an extraordinary AFL comeback, the key defender knows he doesn’t have to rush back with a one-year contract extension announced today.

The new deal gives the 28-year-old peace of mind and security until at the least the end of the 2020 season as he recovers from serious hip and pelvis injuries.

“The support that the club has provided me from day one has been remarkable,” Daw said of his new deal.

“It’s been a hard time for everyone and to get the commitment and allow me to continue onwards next year is huge.

“The only way I can repay the club back is playing AFL footy so I’m really excited.”

North Melbourne confirmed Daw may play in the VFL on Sunday against Sandringham at Arden St, after ticking some significant boxes in his recovery in recent weeks.

If he passes a series of fitness tests and gets through training, he’ll likely be placed on restricted minutes.

Careful not to get too far ahead of himself, Daw admits he can’t help but eye a return to the AFL, as soon as this year.

“The boys had a really good win on the weekend and I want to be a part of that team.”
