The AFLW's night of nights is upon us and a number of North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos players are in the running to have their names recognised as some of the top performers in the game.

The W Awards will be held on Tuesday, April 5 and streamed live and free from 7pm AEST on womens.afl and the AFLW Official App, while Fox Footy and Kayo Sports subscribers will also be able to tune in.

Whether it be Best and Fairest contenders, All-Australian chances, Rising Star nominations or Mark of the Year finalists, North has players vying for recognition in almost every possible category.

Best and Fairest

While there are a number of North players jostling to become the first Kangaroo to be recognised as the top player in the competition, the most likely of those is almost certainly midfield gun Ash Riddell.

Riddell has been a strong contributor since the Kangaroos' induction into the competition and has finished third in back-to-back club best and fairest awards, however she launched her game to another level in 2022.

Her season should be bookended by three-vote performances in Round 1 against Geelong and Round 10 against West Coast after she equalled the all-time disposals in a game record in the former with 35 touches, and smashed it in the latter with a 42-disposal masterclass.

Strong performances against GWS, Carlton and Richmond could see her contending for maximum votes in half of the Kangaroos' games this season, and she's almost certainly a chance to earn votes in every game this season.

Jas Garner's brilliant second half of the campaign could see her surge into contention late in the season, while Emma Kearney's ridiculous levels of consistency see her in with a chance of winning the award for the second time in her career.

All-Australian team

The 40-player extended All-Australian squad was named last week, with the final team set to be announced during the W Awards. The Kangaroos have three representatives amongst the 40 in Kearney, Garner and Riddell, while the likes of Jenna Bruton and Emma King could consider themselves unlucky to be out of the running.

Kearney is not just chasing selection in the side, but she's chasing history. Having been named in all five All-Australian teams to date, she's aiming to become the only woman to be named in the final team a grand total of six times.

Having picked up a new role in the backline in 2022, it speaks volumes of Kearney's abilities as a footballer to be in the running for such prestigious recognition while learning a new role.

Garner's immense rise sees her vying to be named in her fourth consecutive All-Australian team, while Riddell is searching for her second selection after making the side for the first time in 2020.

Rising Star

There are a pair of young Kangaroos vying to be named the best up-and-coming player in the AFLW, with Mia King and Bella Eddey both receiving nominations to be named as the Rising Star during the 2022 campaign.

To be eligible for the award, players must have been under 21 years of age on January 1 of this year and have never received a nomination before.

King kicked off her career-best season in style by earning her nomination in Round 1 against Geelong.

In a tough and tight contest, King was amongst the most consistent performers in the midfield on the day and finished with 15 disposals and four tackles.

Eddey's nomination came in Round 7's victory over Collingwood, with the young wing registering 16 disposals, four marks and three clearances in the fierce clash.

Mark of the Year

After making her name as a staunch key defender, Tahlia Randall could complete her transition to high-flying key forward by winning this season's Mark of the Year.

One of the final three nominees, her competition comes in the form of Fremantle's Ebony Antonio and Melbourne's Tayla Harris.

Randall took her giant grab against GWS in Round 3. Judging the flight of the ball perfectly, she soared in from the side of the forming pack to snatch the ball out of the air, clear of her marker and head and shoulders above any other player.

Voting is now closed for the fan-voted award, so here's hoping North fans got their votes in!
