North Melbourne coach David Noble hopes co-vice captain Luke McDonald's milestone can inspire his players to a breakthrough win over Greater Western Sydney.

Drafted nearly eight years ago under the father-son rule, McDonald will register his 150th game as a Roo on Sunday.

Noble plans to leverage a breakthrough win off the sentiment for the rugged defender, having hailed the 27-year-old as a clubman on Thursday morning.

"I don't think I've been involved with as passionate a player about his footy club in the time I've been around," Noble told reporters at Arden Street.

"When you first step in the door, Luke just embraces you with the Shinboner spirit, and he's got a great history here with his family.

"We're looking forward to seeing whether we can turn the tide, (having lost in) Jack Ziebell's 250th a couple of weeks ago.

"Luke's been a great stalwart, he's one of our vice-captains, he's a great Shinboner and we're looking forward to getting out there and respecting his game."

The Roos will be without key defender Ben McKay, who has been ruled out with concussion amid a season plagued by injuries.

However half-back Aaron Hall could play his first game since Round 5, having completed a lengthy rehabilitation program on a troublesome hamstring.

If selected, it will also be the former Sun's 150th AFL game - 46 of which have come in royal blue and white.

"(It) looks like he'll be available," Noble asserted ahead of a training session Hall had to complete.

"He's done a fair workload in the last month, which has been great.

"The good thing with some of those hamstrings is that you can actually keep training, though it’s at a lower intensity.

"(Compare it with) an ankle which doesn't allow you to get as many of the miles under your legs."

Noble also hinted that he could turn to the twos for inspiration.

High half-forward Jaidyn Stephenson may have earned a recall, having clocked 26 disposals and six tackles for the Roos' reserves last Sunday.

Second-year utility Charlie Lazzaro has continued to apply selection pressure from underneath, and notched 26 disposals, 10 marks and seven inside 50s against Box Hill.

"Stephenson will come back into consideration," Noble revealed.

"(Matt) McGuinness and Lazzaro had reasonable days at VFL level (too), so there's a few.

"Post-bye we'll get a couple back, as well."

Defenders Aiden Bonar and Kallan Dawson, forward Cam Zurhaar and ruck Callum Coleman-Jones are all projected to return after the break.
